Think Family Consultation Event

16th June 2011

Stadium of Light

9.30 am - 2 pm

The event is aimed at finding out what improvements families feel could be made in order to make life better for the family. This could be anything from services, education, leisure facilities etc. The improvement may be for the carer, young carer or the person with the disability/illness.

What matters is that it makes life better for the whole family!

We want to address the issues that many families face, for example, parent carers who may possibly have their own health needs as well as caring for their child and have other children or may be caring for an adult as well as their own child.

There will be a number of Sunderland Carers' Centre staff supporting the event and we will have representatives from adult services, children’s directorate, education, disabled children services and the youth service.

We run these events periodically in order to ensure we have the right topics at the front of our agenda when working to improve services for carers and families. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Lunch will be provided and it’s also an ideal opportunity to meet other carers and professionals and find out information which can support you and your family.

If you would like to attend please call the Carers' Centre to book your place, or for more information on the event speak to Wendy Greenhow or Lisa Watson on (0191) 567 3232.

Carers Week Workshop: “Improving Choice and Control – Making it work for carers”

Sunderland City Council logoThis event has been organised by Sunderland City Council's Health, Housing and Adult Services.

Friday 17th June
10 am – 2.30 pm
Crowtree Leisure Centre

Have you heard about ‘Self Directed Support’, ‘Personalisation of services’ and ‘Improving Choice and Control’?

If you are a carer or you often give support to someone – like a family member or a friend or neighbour – you may be wondering what it all means for you.

Health, Housing and Adult Services are working with service users and carers to support them in new ways which are more tailored to meet their needs.

Service users and carers are at the heart of our approach. They are telling us about their needs and helping to build support plans to suit the way they live.

This workshop will explore our new ways of working. We will look at the possibilities that are opening up for service users and carers and find out how well Self Directed Support is working for people at the moment.

Please join us and take the opportunity to share ideas, ask questions and to continue the development of this exciting way of working.

If you are interested in attending or would simply like to know more, please contact Sunderland Carers’ Centre on (0191) 567 3232.
