Consultation Event for Drug and Alcohol Service Users and Carers

Raich Carter Sports Centre
Tuesday 3rd March 2015
2pm – 4pm
5pm – 7pm

Sunderland City Council is holding a consultation event event for all service users and carers involved in drug and alcohol treatment in Sunderland.

Input from these events will lead to the development of a new treatment system.

The council would like to hear your views about the current model and invite you to be part of the event that will help shape and contribute to an effective treatment system in Sunderland.

The two hour session will consist of a brief presentation and group exercises which will focus on user and carer views on:

• What works in the current treatment system?
• What does not work in the current treatment system?
• What outcomes are most important to service users and carers?
• What improves people’s safety and increases the chance of recovery?

To help with discussion they have invited a limited number of members or the North East Service User and Carer Forum to share examples of good practice across the region.

There will be feedback sessions on the 11th March 2015 at the following venues:

• Millennium Centre, Concord – 10am
• Bede Tower, Burdon Road – 1.00pm
• Raich Carter, Sports Centre – 6.00pm

Refreshments will be provided and all expenses will be paid.
The event is for service users and carers of drug and alcohol treatment services only. If you would like support to attend the event please contact Mal Maclean from NEsay on 07500 869525

If you would like further information about the event please contact Nicola Grainger 0191 561 7815 or email

Canine Companions - Dog of the Year Competition

Carers cope with social isolation in different ways – for some owning a dog can make them feel less isolated.

As part of our 21st Birthday celebrations Sunderland Carers’ Centre is acknowledging the role our four legged friends play in reducing the effects of social isolation by holding the first ever dog of the year competition which we’ve titled… Canine Companions!

If you’d like to nominate your dog please send us a photo of your dog and tell us as a carer how you benefit from their companionship. Also give us your name, the name of your dog and your phone number so we can contact you.

You can enter by post to Sunderland Carers' Centre, e-mailing or via our facebook page.

The closing date is Friday 17th April.
