Parent Carer Christmas Meal

Our Christmas meal out will be on Friday 5th December, 12 noon, at The Italian Kitchen (The Mill), Thompson Road, Southwick.

Santa’s Christmas Party

Hope 4 Kidz is delighted to announce Santa’s Christmas Party at Passion in Holmeside Sunderland, will be taking place again this year on Sunday 7th December, 12 noon – 4pm for children with special needs and children in extreme circumstances aged 2 – 16. At the party there will be entertainment, a balloon artist, face painters, petting zoo, Metro Gnomes, bouncy castle, party games, buffet, disco and Santa’s Grotto.

The next swim session for disabled children and their families at Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre is on Saturday 29th November, 3.45pm – 4.45pm. Entry is £2.20 per person or family ticket £5.25 (maximum 2 adults and 2 young people). For more information please contact their reception on (0191) 561 5900.

ADHD Support Group

Are you a parent of a child with ADHD? The Sunderland ADHD Support Group is run by parents themselves and they offer each other advice and support. The next meetings will be on Monday 3rd November and Monday 17th November, 11.30am – 1pm, at SNYP, 272 Southwick Road, Southwick, Sunderland SR5 1DD. For more information please email

Transition Support Group

The next meeting of the Transition Support Group will be on Thursday 27th November, 10.30am – 12 noon, at Sunderland Carers’ Centre. The group is open to all parents / carers of young people going through transition from children’s services to adult services. Social Inclusion Youth Projects

There are five youth projects for young people aged 13 to 19 years with learning difficulties and disabilities (LDD). These projects offer different activities to meet the needs of each individual young person.

Hendon Young People Project, Church Street East, Hendon, Monday, 5.30pm – 8pm

Fence Houses YMCA, 67 Front Street, Colliery Row, Thursday, 6pm – 8.30pm

Redhouse Youth Project, Rutherglen Road, Redhouse, Thursday, 6pm – 8.30pm

Pitstop, Oxlose Young People’s Project, The Avenue, Glebe, Tuesday, 6pm – 8.30pm

Lambton Street Youth Project, Falkland Road, Pallion, Saturday, 1.15pm – 3.45pm

There is also one youth project for young people aged 19 to 25 years with LDD.

Useful Vision logoUseful Vision Activities

Useful Vision helps families with blind or sight impaired children get the most out of life. They run fun activities for children from 0 to 19 across the region. All the activities are free to families registered with them. The following activity is taking place in November.

Visit Santa Claus and his friends at Whitehouse Farm, Morpeth, Sunday 30th November, 10am – 3pm

Santa has hitched up his sleigh to meet the children at Whitehouse Farm, where they can also join the Elf school and visit Mrs Claus’s bakery. All the usual farm attractions will also be on offer including a chance to pet the animals, visit the birds of prey, adventure playground, pedal tractors, trampolines, tractor trailer rides and soft play area.

Northern Children’s Book Festival

The Northern Children’s Book Festival is the largest free annual reading celebration for young people in Europe. The festival is a two week celebration of books and reading with authors and illustrators meeting children in schools and libraries across the North East.

The event culminates with a Gala Day Pop-up Festival which will be held on Saturday 22nd November at Sunderland City Library and Art Gallery and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. At the event writers and illustrators will be providing a variety of entertaining sessions for different ages from early years up to 16 year olds. Each author session will be followed by a book signing and books will be available to buy. In between author talks there will be a number of other participative activities.
