Sunderland Carers’ Centre and the Sunderland, Washington and Coalfields Parent Carer Council run regular events to ensure we have the right topics at the front of our agenda when working to improve services for carers and their families.
A “Think Family” Event was held on Thursday 16th June at the Stadium of Light to ask carers what families wanted to make life better for the whole family.
The event was very well attended by parent carers, young carers and professionals.
Grandparent carer, Diane Coats introduced the day.
The guest speakers were Pippa Corner, Head of Personalisation, Health, Housing and Adult Services and Meg Boustead, Head of Safeguarding, Children’s Services.
Steve Fletcher, Strategic Manager for Disabled Children joined Pippa to sum up the event.
Wendy Greenhow, Parent Carer Development Worker, from Sunderland Carers' Centre said
"It was heartening to have so many carers and professionals listening to each other and to see that services really do want to meet the needs of families as a unit.
Everyone involved in organising the event is determined to use the comments and ideas from the day to shape policy and services."
Progress following the event will be reported in the Parent Carer Information Bulletin and on this website.
