“Sunderland Carers Centre play a key role in making sure that the voice of carers is heard as part of a multiagency approach”

“The Independent Support Practitioner is their friend in the room”

Since the Independent Support programme was first introduced in 2014, I have seen Sunderland Carers Centre build upon their own confidence, expertise and strengths to ensure families and young people are able to access professional advice and support and have choice and control over all aspects of their lives. One of the reasons why Sunderland Carers stand out from others, is their approach to partnership working with the local authority, Parent Carer Forum, youth groups, schools and local colleges. Because of their efforts, Sunderland Carers Centre has become a well-accepted part of the local decision making process. This has not only ensured they remain at the table and part of the local decision making process, but has also ensured that the important voice of families and young people are being taken into consideration and their views are being heard loud and clear!
