As a carer you can sometimes feel alone and need someone to talk to about your caring situation. Sunderland Carers’ Centre can offer one-to-one support and a listening ear to carers. Workers can speak to carers over the phone or meet them at the Carers’ Centre, in the carer’s own home or at another convenient meeting place. If carers work during the day, workers can arrange appointments outside normal office hours.
Support at Meetings
Sunderland Carers Centre can support young carers and their families at meetings with other professionals (e.g. with health or education services). The support can include helping the young carer and their family prepare for meetings so they will get the most out of them. We can also attend meetings with young carers and their families if they require support. This is also useful so young carers and their families can check with us that they are comfortable with any outcomes identified and the next steps arising from the meeting. Often all that a carer needs is pointing in the right direction with regard to one particular issue, we are able to help with this at the first point of contact. As part of our signposting Service we arrange a follow up call to carers.
Sunderland Carers’ Centre delivers carer’s assessments on behalf of Sunderland City Council for adult carers looking after another adult over the age 18. If you are over 18 or approaching your 18th birthday click here for more information.
