How we can help
The chances are that at some point in your life, someone will rely on you… that makes you a carer!
Many do not recognise themselves as carers.
They are parents, grandparents, children, partners, friends or neighbours doing what needs to be done to maintain a quality of life for those they are looking after.
Sunderland Carers Centre is here to help you. Whether you are caring for young children, parents, grandparents, extended family members or friends, we adopt a “whole family” approach.
Each member of a family will experience different caring roles and our aim is to identify and support every need.

Carer Management Boards.
Comprised of carers whose family members live in 16 small group homes across Sunderland, Carer Management Boards were set up to give carers the opportunity provide scrutiny of policy and bring areas of good practice or concern within the homes to the attention of the Local Authority.
Sunderland Carers Centre acts as a ‘post box’ and message passing facility to enable any family member who has a relative in one of the homes to contact the appropriate Board member.
The Board meets quarterly to receive an update from the Managing Director of Sunderland Care and Support Ltd and to monitor the welfare of the residents of the homes. The Board has the power to make suggestions and to influence the care and support offered.
